STC-1889-1 Lace
Collar & Skirt Trim with Trained Skirt
$5.00
Shown on 46" Letha Marie by Gwen Ross
All good designs have a story to tell. This dress and
the rest of the 1889 dresses were part of a college
assignment. I had told my instructor that my first
year of college left me unchallenged and wanted something
special. She assigned me a historic garment line to
be designed (one class), drafted (CAD class) and graded
in 3 sizes (third class). In addition to these 3 classes
I was taking a small business class as well and it
became the focal point for an assignment in that class
as well.
I chose the year 1889 as it was the year my great-grandma
was born (she died when I was 5 but I loved her dearly).
She was a dressmaker by trade, so is my mother so sewing
and design are in the blood. I researched the year
and chose a fairly simple design and started expanding
it. I chose 3 of my dolls, Letha Marie by Gwen Ross
of Mystic Mold (46" tall shown), Gwendolyn by
Gwen Ross of Mystic Mold (12" tall) and Katherine
(5 1/2" tall) . I attended the Anaheim Doll Show
that fall and that's when I found Katherine and fell
in love with miniatures.
The aforementioned assignments for the various classes
all earned an "A". This particular design
placed Second in the Sewing Catagory at the doll show.
